The Letter J

of Alphabetical Order

June Torn

Roses,
coals pressed to my eyes

Babies split their mothers,
desperate for air

Corpses of inexperience
line the roadside

Cottonwoods battle the wind
shake suddenly, furiously shudder,
shudder, explode,
burst cloud-white

Vain passion for perpetuity
thick
    in the air for days
